my review of the microsoft entra windows server cloud suite

i was looking to setup a windows server through azure, seeing that vendor knows best when it comes to big companies, by getting a virtual machine with windows server on it, but i noticed on microsofts website they had windows server on the cloud

back then when you heard windows server on the cloud, it was like, for windows media player or some shit, but this is the real deal, setup a windows server on a cloud, meaning its like a mainframe with shared resources, and yeah, no more klutlzing with a greasy mouse in a server room with some befowled windows server installation

microsoft took fedora/rhels anaconda web management, i tink its cockpit, to a whole new level, when they setup entra as a web based windows server on cloud manamgement system, so yeah, man, you can setup a windows server and you can login to it and get shared resources, such as websites on available on the vpn subnet or websites (including web apps!) on the windows domain, meaning, youre required to login into windows, lets say your login on windows is 'roger', and your windows server domain, which is a FQDN, rogeratkins.com, you would login to your windows installation, or macos with an app, with roger@rogeratkins.com, and gain access to rogeratkins.com websites that only the admin can give or take access away to

so rogeratkins.com is admin by admin@rogeratkinscom, meaning he can give steve, stan, his sister, his mom access to specific resources on the cloud, such as email addresses, mountable cloud drives (up to 2tb! great for high speed connections), authencation based websites and web apps, even custom windows apps made through the windows server api libraries

so i can make an app, for my own windows server hosted on entra that can like, like a calendar app for my family that like, shares a shopping list on an app, an application, and a website using a sql server (entra supports a ton of other services too!), and it can only be accessable to users on the rogeratkins.com server. and yes, you can host a website on it too! theres a wordpress app for entra that allows you to setup a blog and your company or your family can blog on the same website!

entra is also fairly secure, requiring the windows authencator app to login, which is some kind of layered physical to layer method of network security. meaning the server requires you to tap on a generated number on the windows authencator app, which makes it really difficult to crack or guess passwords

you can also, for an extra 5 or 15$, purchase office 365 licenses for the binary app office 365, meaning you can use the windows office programs with your server and users, meaning if you spend 15$/user you can access word, excel, outlook using an email tied to your domain, powerpoint, etc, and i think it includes windows defender, an anti malware program, and it'll be a bonified legit copy of office 365

you can also run web office on your lan! each user needs a license, and an account on the server, but you can goto office.yourwebsitehere.com and write word documents in your web browser! its a full office suite on your website

the downside is is its super expensive, expect to pay upwards of 300$/user for the full microsoft suite, about 20$ a user (meaning if you have 20 users you pay 400$ a month) making launching small business websites based on this technology difficult unless you know microsoft

i personally got slapped with a 300$ microsoft suprise charge today, but good software. thats how i know its from microsoft lol
